Kalanna Shelties History
Hi, my name is Kelly Schnur,
my husband Richard and I have been married for 15 yrs., we have two great kids Bethany 21 and Matthew who is 23.
For 9 years I worked at veterinary hospital and this helped give me the desire to pursue my dog training career. my
husband is the Plant Manager for Goodyear/Wingfoot retreading plant in Cranberry Twp. Bethany is working as a hair sylist at
a high end salon in Virginia Beach and with her fiance Tony is planning her June 08 wedding. Matthew recently
took a position utilizing his computer degree and with his fiance Shontell, are planning their March 09 wedding.
My interest in shelties
started in 1996 when I found an ad for a sheltie near by who needed a home. We rescued him and thus began my sheltie
adventures. Rex a tri color male was approximately 3 yrs old. ~ no one seemed to know his age or history. This
little guy attached himself to my heart and showed me what a special breed the Shetland sheepdogs are. At this time
we were living in a small house in a small town so Rex fit nicely into our home. I purchased Sheltie Talk and began
reading and learning about this wonderful breed.
1997:
We were fortunate to purchase 15 ½
acres of beautiful country land and built our ranch home in the middle of our property. We are far off the rural road, away
from all other neighbors except for one who shares the right of way between our properties.
2001:
I was
finally able to purchase a blue merle bitch who I named “Kaila ~ Forever in Blue Jeans” (I love denim).
My daughter found her a middle name “Alanna” which means something like beautiful girl in another language
(I think). I put the two together to make Kalanna for our kennel name.
2003:
I purchased
a stud dog from a breeder who was downsizing. Tux, a tri color, came to us at 6yrs. old and was a very shy little man.
It took us many months to get him to warm up to us. He is such a happy dog now that he knows he is safe and he loves running
through the fields with all the other shelties here at Kalanna.
2004:
Kaila and Tux are
now spayed and neutered, Kaila is enjoying the obedience and rally rings and Tux just enjoys being a loved pet and running
around with the other shelties.
2005:
We purchased a blue bitch: Hullston Hot Damn Here
I Am “Dani” from Debbie Hull and will be persuing a show career with her. In the mean time, Dani needed
to mature a bit to feel more comfortable in the ring and was bred to CH.Road's End Obvious Conclusion "Bear"and
on July 5 2006 Dani gave birth to a beautiful blue girl we named Kalanna's Callaway in the Ruff "Cali".
She will be growing up here at Kalanna.
2007
Dani has given birth to a litter of 5 beautiful puppies.
Their sire is AM/CAN CH Darmil Tuscarora. We kept Taylor; a tri dog and Annika a blue merle bitch and will be entering
them in their first shows in the fall of 2007.
2008
Well, Bethany and Tony got married in June; all went well and they are currently
living in Virginia Beach and enjoying being newly weds. Next March Matthew and Shontell get married....stay tuned..
